January 2021: Thank-you Alberta Equestrian Federation

ECA is looking to add decorations to its obstacle inventory.

We are looking for:

1) Fake Christmas trees in reasonably good condition.

2) Western items - old saddles, wagon wheels, branding irons, old saddlebags ……………….

If you have any of these items to donate, please let Bob Lee know and he can arrange to pick them up.

Post Race (June 12 - 14) Message

It was looking like the Wild Wild West at our first Extreme Cowboy race this past weekend!

And it was really amazing that we were able to get together to compete and to also see so many new attendees. Thank you all who participated despite the constant state of flux with Covid19 protocols. We have never seen so many smiling faces even with the wet conditions and gusting winds!

Event Registrations for the season are up on our website but are currently disabled, and details are subject to change due to changing Covid-19 protocols. We will notify you when the sites are opened for registration. We appreciate your ongoing patience.

Due to Covid-19 throwing a wrench in our schedule, there will be no overall high point awards, but we still hope to have our Division Winner buckles. To be in the running for a Division buckle, you must compete in a minimum of 5 races plus the Finals.

Until the next time, keep on riding and having fun!

MAY 29, 2020

We are so happy to announce that ECA events are back on with a slightly different format to account for 50 maximum participation and COVID-19 restrictions. Our first event of the season, post-COVID shut down, will start with Mock Races on June 12th, Obstacle Playday Sessions on June 13th, and our first race on Sunday, June 14th. Registration and details of these events will be up on our site shortly.

At this time, the formats of our events will follow COVID-19 protocols, are subject to change and will currently run as follows, please have patience:

  • All of our events will be held outside at the Cochrane Ag, with 6 ft. social distancing. June’s events will be held in the outdoor rodeo arena located by the lower barns.
  • Each Rider will be allowed one accompanying person, if necessary. (i.e. young guns require a driver) to help keep attendance < 50 persons.
  • Every attendee must have in their possession a face mask/bandana to cover their nose & mouth and personal hand sanitizer or soap & water. No one will be allowed to enter the grounds without these items on their possession; they do not have to be worn/used, but are needed in case of an emergency and someone needs help.
  • A marshall will be at the entrance gate to monitor attendee numbers, ensure facemasks, & sanitizer in possession, and direct vehicles to pre-assigned locations.
  • No spectators will be allowed.
  • No food truck. Everyone is to provide their own food and drinks.
  • Staged arrival time for race day.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again

MARCH 26, 2020

I understand that these are tough and uncertain times that we are facing right now, and that the spread of COVID-19 has impacted all of our day to day lives. As your Chair, I want to reach out to explain the steps that we are taking to keep safe and to comply with government mandates. At this time, all extreme cowboy racing events are cancelled and the Cochrane Ag, where we hold our events, is closed to all public riding.  These are temporary preventative measures and we hope to reschedule all cancelled events in the near future.

I know for most of us this sport is what keeps us sane, and I wish I was able to find a way for us to get together safely.

In the meantime, we are holding an ECA photo contest.  The winner will be awarded a free Obstacle Play Day session.  We would love to see your favourite photos taken at an ECA event.  Please send your photo(s) (each not greater than 1 MB) to extremecowboyalberta@gmail.com

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, and that we will all be able to get back to normal soon.
